Meet the Author

From the time her son was an infant, Dr. Monica Hawkins often heard the same question from parents, teachers, and coaches: “What are you doing differently?”
People consistently noticed how alert, intelligent, and curious he was as a baby. As he grew older, those observations continued. He stood out for his intelligence, confidence, articulate nature, strong sense of self-esteem, and natural leadership abilities.
Those experiences inspired Dr. Hawkins to write her first book, Raising Boys Into Extraordinary Young Men. Her goal was simple but meaningful: to encourage and empower parents to intentionally raise boys who grow into intelligent, self-confident, compassionate, and extraordinary young men.
Recognizing that parents of girls share the same desire to nurture confidence, character, and leadership, Dr. Hawkins later wrote Raising Girls Into Extraordinary Young Women. Through both books, she hopes to provide parents with practical encouragement and inspiration as they help their children recognize their potential and become the very best versions of themselves.
Beyond her work as an author, Dr. Hawkins is a proud wife and mother, sports enthusiast, fitness lover, mentor, tutor, motivator, and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
Dr. Hawkins earned her Ph.D. from George Mason University, a Master of Public Health from George Washington University, and a Bachelor of Science from Howard University.
Dr. Hawkins has also shared the inspiration and messages behind both of her books through media appearances, including an interview with Stephanie Gaines-Bryant on the Sisters4 Fitness show on YouTube.
